Authorship and data ownership
Authorship on posters, chapters, and peer-reviewed journal article is determined by several factors. I will generally be the senior / corresponding author on all research products coming out of this lab. This is usually the last author, but occasionally may be the first author. Dissertations, when submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, will always have the lab member first and me last. For conference posters, the presenting lab member is almost always the first author (with me as last author). Other (middle) authors should have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, and/or interpretation of the project, and the author list needs to be approved by me before submission. Finally, all ideas conceived and data collected in our lab are lab property. Data, graphs, abstracts, pre-publication manuscripts, etc., should never be sent to anyone outside the lab before clearing it with me first.
